It sounds counter-intuitive, but the more you write, the better your odds become.

Anton Chekhov understood this. His advice:

Write as much as you can! Write write write till your fingers break!

Chekhov wrote over 700 novellas and other short pieces, not to mention a few of the most enduring works of theater ever written.

So, what are you waiting for? Get to it. Write!
